Windows Vista VPC Killer?

I just installed Windows Vista beta 2 (build 5384) on my AMD64 3500 running Windows XP and Virtual PC 2004 with 2 GB Ram addressed to it. Sluggish… the unbearable slowness by which Vista runs makes me want to pull my hairs out. After installing the Virtual Machine Additions it runs somewhat faster, but still nowhere near acceptable for actual testing. But hey what to expect from a VM Additions S3 Trio32/64 driver with such fancy graphics. To be honest the UI is very impressive! Tomorrow, I will probably mount an extra disk to create a dual boot and put my 7800GTX to the rescue.

Dual boot? Good idea... I'm anxious to hear from your experiences with that. I've also experienced this slowness in a VPC but I'm not yet ready to simply replace my Windows XP installation which I use nearly every day. I think a lot of IT pro's struggle with this dilemma ;-)

I found that it works best to have Vista be a dual boot (at least an earlier release a couple of months -- I am sure the same with the latest release). Once I did that, perforamnce was much more livable.

This entry on "Virtually Vista" talks about an update to VM Additions coming really really soon.
