EOAST - Evolution of a software thingy - Part 2
Monday, August 11, 2008 4:14 PM
In a part 1 of this series , I talked about what was the purpose of coming up with this "software thingy". Now I will tackle some of the design aspects that have evolved as I have been working on it. Just to mention the requirements again though, it must be able to gather and store information from literally any source, and not tied to one collection mechanism... Read More...
EOAST - Evolution of a software thingy - Part 1
Monday, August 04, 2008 4:48 PM
Its been a little while since I have blogged as I haven't had very many value items to add to the blogosphere lately. However, I have been steadily (albeit slowly) working away on a little software project that may or may not see the light of day, but it has been a fun learning experience, and may eventually come to something. If nothing else, its a good testbed... Read More...
WCF services getting errors when hosting in IIS
Wednesday, June 04, 2008 11:42 AM
This post is more for my own records than anything and I have been meaning to write this down for some time. Problem: Had a WCF Web Service that was being hosted in IIS. Worked in dev and test fine. Moved to prod and bang, I get the following error: This collection already contains an address with scheme http. There can be at most one address per scheme in this... Read More...

MCTS in WCF
Sunday, April 20, 2008 6:55 PM
So a little while ago, I mentioned that I did a WCF beta exam for a Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist. Its been a long time since I did that and I had kinda forgotten about it, but today I received the good news that I am now a MCTS in WCF! WooHoo! I really thought I had bombed that exam due to the very little prep that I had done, but fortunately that... Read More...

ASP.NET MVC and IE8 WebActivities
Friday, March 14, 2008 12:23 PM
One of the great things in readify is the ability to do Professional Development at scheduled intervals to keep up to speed with the latest industry technologies and advancements. My latest foray into this (amongst other things) has been looking at the ASP.NET MVC framework and Internet Explorer 8 WebActivities . Both of these technologies are quite cool and... Read More...
WCF & ASP.NET Role Provider
Friday, February 08, 2008 3:08 PM
So I was talking to Shea Strickland a relatively new starter in readify who is doing some WCF work and asked about the role provider support in WCF. He pointed me to an article by Dominick Baier who mentioned that the RoleProviderPrincipal in WCF will actually cause a database call each time an IsInRole check is performed. After some experimentation, this was... Read More...

WCF Beta Exam
Sunday, December 02, 2007 8:17 PM
I took the opportunity to sit the WCF Beta exam a few days ago and I must say, it was very hard. Being beta, I don't find out the results until about 8 weeks later, but I reckon I didn't fare too well. I did book the test a little impulsively, however I saw the opportunity to do it, and only had a free day to do the test that was a few days later than when I... Read More...
Architecture, WCF Services and Caching
Friday, August 10, 2007 11:17 AM
Blog Article On a recent project we had the requirement to produce a web application as part of the main deliverable, but also to provide a services layer or implementation, that will allow external clients within the same organization to interact with the underlying system. The underlying system is a combination of SQL data access and web services to other systems... Read More...
Readify Developer Network gets launched
Monday, August 06, 2007 7:25 PM
I have been sick and out of action lately, and one of the things that has transpired during this period is the launch of the Readify Developer Network - RDN . Greg Low does a great job of explaining it in detail in his post , but here is a quick snippet of what its all about. Its basically a series of webcast like high quality presentations delivered by readify... Read More...
ASP.NET Podcasts
Friday, July 20, 2007 2:57 PM
After going on holidays, feeling relaxed and generally not doing much tech related stuff, I have fallen behind in a number of things. One was my inbox, something like 1400+ messages I have had to wade through, and they keep coming. However, the other is the podcasts. Wally has been producing some podcasts and I have been out of the loop, and being the slacker... Read More...
