The Island - Cool Microsoft sponsorship

Went to see the Island tonight. Not the greatest movie in the universe, but what amazed me was the omni presence of Microsoft everywhere.

Usually Apple has the computer part in a movie, but it’s quite visible only by the geeks. Oh man in The Island, Microsoft is really visible!

The holographic fighting game at the first part of the movie, has a big Xbox logo. One thing for sure it must be Xbox version 3000 :-)

Also I noticed in the LA of the near future one building has a big Microsoft logo (can’t be 100% sure on this one).

But the coolest one was the MSN Search phone boot, yep with voice recognition, video conference, and touch screen to get any directory information.

Welcome Big Brother :-) Nokia has also a scene in the movie where the main character (at least the original one) put his mobile phone on a cradle and then we can see a projection on the wall of a video conference. Cool!

It’s great to see that movies are now trying to integrate in a near future with some stuff we all know will happen. Even the cars trucks and bus in the movies are doable soon.

I recommend the movie anyway for all the nicest car chases, even better than the one in the Matrix.

When he ran the search, it found 0 results ... they really got the marketing wrong on that one ;-)

Right, so you admit at not being geek enough? I'm sure I saw Apple logos on the computers in use inside the cloning facility. The ones that the clones are doing their "keep busy jobs" on. <grin>

  • and don't forget the clearly visable "CISCO" logo when using the ip conference call at the last part of the movie.

This was clearly a tech-sponsored movie but luckily with a more realistic near-future vision

I'm sure even in the future people will be unlisted
