What's so wrong with a Pie Barm?

I grew up in a town in the north of England and I gre up eating Pie Barms.

I'm being repeatedly told that they're wrong and evil. I don't see it - they are great.

Tell me now, that after seeing this you don't want a bite?

See! YOU WANT IT.

I didn't say it was wrong, just I hadn't seen it before. I just feel that if you have pastry you don't need the bun (and that's coming from a confirmed breadoholic).

What's wrong is that there's bread AND pastry. There's a redundancy.

I grew up in Somerset and moved up north about seven years ago.

I remember going into a fish and chip shop and thinking this:

1)  What the hell is a barm?

2)  Who has gravy on their chips?

Well, I found out what a barm was, and quite a lot of people up here have gravy on their chips (strange.)

But then I met you Phil.  Let's clear up one thing:

THIS IS WRONG and it fills me with DISGUST.

Oh man! I've not had a pie barm or pie butty for ages. Down 'ere in't south, there ain't many good pies. I get my mum to send me Wigan pies every so often :) Gravy on chips is the only true gourmet way to eat chips.

Wow-i want one!

I used to live up north with normal people who knew what barms were, then moved south where no-one knew what i was talking about.

@dunsel, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barm, its only similar to a hamburger bun...

Barmcakes rule!

Late reply, but...

Pie Barms are ace. Also known colloquially as Pie Butty or Wigan Kebab.

That looks more like a muffin than a barm cake. That papery skin and light aeriated interior is a sure sign of low quality muffinery. A true barm cake has a flatter, doughier, denser texture and often has a dark well done ring on the top.

I know a barm cake when I see one...

Nowt up with a pie barm though, my friend.....stuff your rops and enjoy it, that's what I say!

I was grow up in the north, north lincolnshire to be persist but I now lived in the north west for 8 years.

When I first came over the M62 I did not have a clue what a Barm was but I soon found out they meant a bap or bun. I also got my first experience of pie 'barms'.

I think the best it about the bread is that it catches the pastry crumbs and gravy when you are eating on the move. Especially important when you are suited and booted!

You northerners are weird.  Pie in a bread roll, but no battered sausages.  Oh how I miss the south.  And don't get me started on the total wrongness which is pea-wet.

I'm from the south, but wish i lived in the north. Anywhere south of Birmingham - the pies are substandard. Unless anybody can point out a good pie shop for me.

i cannot believe how many people i test with the question "do you know what a barm is?" that come back with "dunno".  i work with some scousers and woolibacks and none of them have had a pie barm either, they are all nearly sick when i suggest it.  its horrible, it brings a tear to my eye knowing what they are missing out on.  and i will never understadn why southerners cannot fathom gravy on chips

I'm from Bolton and regularly went to watch Wigan RL when I lived up that way.  Pie barms were at least a weekly occurance.  I went to Aberytwyth Uni and ordered a Pie Barm at a chippy and they were very confused. After trying to make them understand, they wrapped a pie and a 'bun' up separately - I had to unwrap them and show them what I meant. And of course I smothered it in ketchup.  A big problem in Wales is that nowhere does meat and potato pies! I now live in Cardiff and the problem is the same.  I have successfully introduced Pie Barms to 'Chip off the Old Block' cafe in Maesteg though... By the way - Lancashre Pasties knock the socks off a Cornish anyday - more filling, sloppier and less pastry - available at Greenhalghs's.

Hi people.

I have something to say, about aloe Vera, something about which you wrote above, about health and minerals... For a long time, I and my   friend use the products of the FLP Company. We every time see the good results and also we earn money for our families and we are happy. My friend works with Aloe in the company of FLP has more than 5 years (My friend works ONLY in the flp and has a wife and three children). I know Aloe products for personal care for a long time, but a year ago, began working as a distributor in the flp.

Of course, the job is so hard, but in no other case, you really can earn so much money with so much fun and   smiling faces around..

So if you want to discuss something about your post, and about my experience with aloe Vera products for weight loss, I'll always be glad to talk.

Best regards from Washington and have a nice day!

Andrew - Aloe Vera Distributor
