SharpReader & Threads

Anyone else have any instances where SharpReader's worker threads hang? Right now (and this happens at least once or twice a day) SharpReader is showing me "15+190" in the status bar (15 feeds busy updating with 190 still to go). And it's just sitting there. No updates are coming in. I've dropped the default number of threads to use down from 25 to try and correct the problem. I usually have to close SharpReader and re-open it and that fixes it

  • Yep. Same problem. I restart it regularly.

The other problems I have with it:

    1. High memory usage (100+ MB - I know task manager isn't accurate with .NET resources, but it is a memory hog).

    2. When I start it up in the morning, I get tons of popup alerts that cover the right side of the screen. I want the alerts during the day, but wish there was an option to hide them on startup.

    3. Blogs are shown out of order. I think someone's said this may be a problem with the RSS feeds or something. I end up missing blogs in my inbox because they show up off the screen when they're first posted.

And yet, I keep with it. It's the best one I've seen, so far.

  • Yes - it hangs once a week for me.

I'm quite a heavy user of SharpReader - 140 feeds and 16,000 posts. I don't know whether this has any impact. I leave SharpReader running 24/7 (except when it hangs).

I'd love SharpReader to pull the diff code out of FlexWiki and put it into SharpReader so I can tell which parts of a post have been updated.

  • I experienced almost the same problems as Jon. Recently switched to RSSBandit which til now seems to behave more smoothly. It's also running 24/7 on my machine, with about 210 active feeds.
