Hey Microsoft Events, wake up.

Can someone enlighten me why on earth the MSDN Security Breifing in my area is being held in Richmond?

If you dont know the area (Vancouver, Lower Mainland BC), Richmond is basically the worst place you could hold any sort of event.

Its on an island so no matter what your crossing a bridge each way, which means aweful traffic. Its not even close to the main "downtown" core so everyone who works or lives down there will have to either drive or take a bus. Oh, we have whats called a Skytrain (Metro, Train, whatever you want to call it); its a mass transit system which goes to almost every place in the lower mainland EXCEPT Richmond. From the Skytrain, it would probably take over an hour to commute on a Bus down to Richmond.

I cant see why anyone would attend unless they are crazy enough to fight the rush hour traffic at 7:30am and drive on their own, or they live in Richmond. If you want people to show up hold it either downtown or on the Skytrain route (BCIT/Burnaby?). Save us the hassle.

I personally hate going downtown for anything (Im just not a downtown sort of guy, I live in Burnaby), but would rather go there than head out to Richmond.

Hey Rob,

Thanks for the feedback - the feedback we've gotten in the past from our attendees is that parking is a huge issue. This venue has great parking, and in general is the nicest theatre in the area.

So we're booked at this point. We'll try this one, and learn from our ways. We've yet to find the killer venue in Vancouver - maybe it is BCIT, as you suggest!

Thanks again,
Craig

I agree, I'm dreading that drive. I live downtown on cambie and 17th so it shouldn't be too bad driving into richmond but getting out is scary. I'm sure BCIT would love to host a Microsoft event-- barring that there are many downtown venues close to skytrain such as Canada place or across the street the Fairmount waterfront.

Simply put, Richmond is a pain in the ass!
