Whidbey : Are we seeing a negative trend?

This is not the first time I have heard someone bitch about Whidbey and the up coming 2005 release (Yes, including Longhorn and Indigo).  Is it a trend which Microsoft should be watching out for?

If so maybe they should consider stepping back a bit and focus more attention on the current build.  Maybe even the majority of active community participants, magazines, and other publications should heed this warning also.

For me, I’m neck deep in V1.1 and have been for quite some time now.  But I LOVE to learn about Whidbey and force myself to keep up to date on as much stuff as I possibly can.  Heck I have even written articles and given presentations on V2.

I wonder how many of you would like for Microsoft and the community at large to take a step back and bring more focus on V1.1?

MVP Sex...

I wonder why Marcie [1] [2] and Julia both are so concerned about the amount of women that are MVP's and that attended the MVP Summit.

Maybe I should start counting the number of bald people?  Number of people with a wart on their nose?  What about the number of blind people?

Personally I dont see why people care about these details.  The decision for Microsoft to give you the MVP award, I'm sure, has nothing to do with what set of body parts you currently own.

What do you think?

StationRipper...

If you missed the post on Slashdot about StationRipper check it out.  I let it run overnight on just 4 streams, and it has already ripped over 1 gig.

Extremely low overhead.  It spawns a worker process (about 3M in memory) per stream.  CPU consumption is close to nil.

So much good music, so little time.

I'm a Master?!
Master!
You are a MASTER of the English language!

While your English is not exactly perfect,
you are still more grammatically correct than
just about every American. Still, there is
always room for improvement...

How grammatically sound are you?

Page 23 Meme

I'm in...

The meme works like this:

Grab the nearest book. Open the book to page 23. Find the fifth sentence. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.

Here's mine:

“We also can break existing dimension rows down to a lower level of grabularity from a certain point in time by adding new data rows in the table or by executing an SQL ALTER TABLE command.“

MVP + Home Automation Article...

MVP Summit was much fun.  You really have to go to those things with networking/socializing in mind, and not learning much of anything that is new, which I did.  Im still trying to gather my thoughts on feedback to most of the groups that presented.  I did manage to meet someone from the QA team for Visual Studio, and got in a few comments regarding VS.NET 2003 and how badly it has been treating me lately.  Hopefully a fix will come of it.

15seconds.com just published my latest article.  Wireless Home Automation Using .NET and X10“.  What a fun article to write.  I think my roomate things I'm a total geek now that I can turn the house lights on and off with my cell phone from the pub.

Microsoft MVP Academy...

Microsoft has recently started to jump up the activity regarding their MVP Academy (more) (literally a place for MVP's to learn).  We were asked which courses we would fine more useful including the level of expertise.

There was demand for the low level (100-200) courses on C# so they decided to offer one.  On the off chance that Microsoft would take my offer I sent them an email letting them know that I would be willing to help out at any capacity with these lower level courses.  Instructor, Teachers Aid, etc.. Since its only 3 to 4 weeks long, I felt I could easily devote the time too it.

They responded back, and we went through a few conversations and next thing you know I'm the actual instructor for the course coming in April.  Hopefully more courses are offered in the future and I can take on more work along these lines.  I love it.

For all those that enrolled I look forward to meeting you at the Summit this next week.

For other readers I will try to post up comments and feedback as the course progresses.

Exciting!

My New Desktop...
