*a light switch flips*... off

Now that I've reduced my codebase for GenX.NET 3.0, I just figured out how to reduce the size of the output file by 50%-90% in some cases. Here's the part where I'm at a loss...

Do I talk about how I do it? Or do I make you buy the source code to find out? The problem is, I've seen how my competitors output their files, and they don't use this method. This gives me a competitive advantage, and another reason why my customers would want to buy my product. So do I talk about it? This is the crux of the reason why Scoble has been sub-consciously sensoring himself recently, and why Corporate America is afraid of blogging.

I've been really interested in the Cluetrain Manifesto recently. Scoble pointed me to it. (In case you haven't noticed, Scoble's my hero. Well, him and Joe Scarborough) So how do I carry on the conversation and still maintain the competitive edge? Maybe that's covered in the book. I should go buy the book.

Any suggestions guys? Please throw me your opinions.

  • If it's something you discovered that gives you a competitive edge then, personally, I wouldn't be mad at you if you didn't share it. You deserve to keep that edge as long as you can. Let the others work hard now to figure out what you're doing. If they're public about trying to figure it out, then you can chime in with: "Yes, that's right... here's how I discovered it/do it.".

    Just my 2¢,
