Hibernate may violate "Object model mapping and runtime engine" patent

"Red Hat will face a patent infringement lawsuit this week over whether Hibernate, which it inherited from JBoss violates ORM patents held by FireStar Software. FireStar alleges that Hibernate violates U.S. patent 6,101,502 -- " Object model mapping and runtime engine for employing relational database with object oriented software."
The world has gone mad.

The spesifics of their "patent" has been around for ages in Smalltalk and other enviornment, I do not believe that it will hold wather.

Patents are OK in my opinion as long as there's an actual product. I don't like the idea of someone filing patents on every idea they can dream up, never intending to develop an actual product, with the intention of suing when someone else actually does develop a product.
