How do we know it does not transfer all your password so some netweok server...?

keepass rocks, especially because you can attach files to each password you store, so i can backup gpg/pgp keyrings and so forth.

why use foldershare when you can just use a small http server to share files? grab your ip address from start->run->ipconfig, give that out to anyone who you want, and now your computer is a website. but back to the topic...

i've been using keepass since january, along with gpg and enigmail for mozilla's thunderbird email client. as it stands right now, i have more data security than either of the parties in wwii, and im not even 30y old.

the power and security that the combination of open-source gpg and open-source keepass give you is incredibly cool. i know there are no backdoors because i've examined the source. ok, i haven't but in theory i could ;) and i'm sure SOMEONE has.

another one i like is pgpdisk, from the pgp corporation, which mounts an encrypted virtual hard drive. but even in my pgpdrive i keep my files encrypted. i hate getting hacked, everyone should hate getting hacked, and we should all take measures to prevent it, like keepass and gpg, and lovely open-source browsers like firefox.

and if youre going to bother having firefox, get flashblock from mozdev.org and optimoz from there too. one stops those darn flash ads and the other offers "mouse gestures" which are totally awesome. one step closer to advanced human-machine-internet interfaces.

Roy: It's not so different, but I guess FolderShare is just a big honeypot for Crackers, because they would gain access to the whole machine(s). Cracking Passport, PayPal, etc. just gives you access to this particular account.
Also, I don't like the thought of having some FolderShare administrator sniffing around my machine...

Just a little security tip: when writing down (or choosing) your passwords, never write down the actual password. Intead, write down a hint that (preferrably only) you can deduce the password from.

For example: lets say your password was #canD4spot

When you write this down, write: No candy for my pet. If your pet's name is spot, you'll know this cold and nobody in the world will ever get your password if they manage to crack your archive.

Not only is this smart security, it's a piece of mind!

Jens: Is it any different that using Remote Desktop, Paspowrt, PayPal etc?
Each of these, if broken, poses a major threat to your life, woudn't you say?
Everything is a matter of clauclated risk, as well as choosing a good password for FolderShare..

I think FolderShare is one of the worst security breaches ever: If someone manages to hack into your account, he instantly gets full access to your connected PCs! You might want to consider that.
KeePass is really great btw. ;)
