&lt;p&gt;Using random numbers, instead of 0 or 1, for testing is an advice I&amp;#39;ve seen in many MS books like &lt;a rel="nofollow" target="_new" href="http://www.amazon.com/Writing-Solid-Code-Microsofts-Programming/dp/1556155514"&gt;www.amazon.com/.../1556155514&lt;/a&gt; . In legacy languages like C and C++(hahaha) it helps find bugs in the manual memory managent.&lt;/p&gt;
