From Comment to Thread: The French

My last blog entry mentioned a fondue restaurant that I believe might be called "Fondue French". Someone posted a comment that said "BOYCOTT THE FRENCH" and signed it "French_Suck".

That got me to thinking - the whole reason Americans started to boycott French stuff was because the French didn't go to war against Iraq with us.

With the new tune the Bush administration is playing regarding the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, how many people out there think that maybe it's the French that should be boycotting OUR products?

I'm not sure I have an opinion one way or the other, I'm just curious to hear what people think.

I am not litteraly french but I do live in the french part of Switzerland (which borders France on the middle-eastern part) so I am quite 'involved' into the daily news-mass-media-manipulation stuff from France.

As you mentioned, Americans started to boycott french stuff following to Iraq war. What Americans didn't really realize is that a lot lot lot and a lot of french people do actually boycott US products for a while. Nothing to do with war, not only the french. The reasons ? Just because we, little europeans, might be kind of afraid of the 'american imperialism' and maybe also be trying to prefer our 'local' markets before privilegiating the external ones.

And sometimes, specially those recent times... american politics and medias really pisses us off. Nothing to do with people like you which haven't got anything in common (I hope) with those guys high on the pyramid.

In fact, I'd say relations between french and us guys are ...unchanged and even great if we don't consider the political, military and commercial stuff ;)

That's wrong. The reason Americans started to boycott French goods is because they ACTIVELY fought against us on this issue. If you're an ally and don't agree, say you don't agree but don't fight us. That just shows no respect at all.
