Seeing as how I frequently want to rant about many things that have nothing to do with technology, I figured it would be a good idea to use the RTM version of Community Server to set up a blog on my own site. Feel free to drop by: www.nemhauser.com/cs/blogs/russ

Today I saw an online petition designed to preserve Visual Basic 6, COM, and a bunch of those old, out-dated related technologies on this web site.

I have to say that an effort like this seems quite rediculous to me, very much analogous to intentionally keeping around Windows Me or Windows 98.

We live in a world where progress is made. That's just how it works. I highly recommend Rocky Lhotka's blog entry on this topic. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Thumbs Up Logitech

A couple of months ago I started to travel fairly extensively. Being a married man it was quickly evident that being away from home as much as two weeks out of the month forces you to try to create new ways to be as close to home as possible.

An old high school buddy of mine works for Logitech and after hearing my circumstances took it upon himself to furnish us with two of their webcams: the Orbit.

I remember trying to get a much older model of Logitech camera working so I could have webcam conferences a couple of years ago using Windows 2000, and it was a total crap shoot. I am VERY happy to report that after downloading the drivers for this camera and getting it to work on the FIRST try three times in a row on three different computers that Logitech deserves a big thumbs up.

I know that Windows XP offers some help in this arena, but due to the success (and zero headaches) I felt that Logitech deserves some appreciation and I HIGHLY recommend this particular webcam to anyone who needs or wants this technology.

Back to the travel theme, anyone interested in seeing my upcoming talks or viewing my pre-recorded MSDN webcasts can visit my web site at www.nemhauser.com
