Dell PowerEdge 600SC - Quiet?

Published 25 September 05 09:43 PM | russnem

I was wondering if anyone knew of a power supply I could get for my Dell PowerEdge 600SC that would be quieter than the one that shipped with the server without sacrificing wattage. I only have 2 hard drives, 2 DVD drives, and one floppy drive, but I'm certain there HAS to be a more audible-friendly power supply out there that I can depend on for my one and only server.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

well... you DID buy a server... sometimes their not even "regulated for residential" use (by the FCC I think)

The key is changing that fan, if you can. Get one that doesnt have so much pitch on the blades, which also reduces its ability to move the air from room to case.

You can compensate by adding another low CFM fan.

Another thing, if you add any fans, consider ensuring that the air pressure inside the case is HIGHER then air pressure OUTSIDE, which will keep the entire machine a lot more dust free.
