ThinkPad Follow-up

Kudos must go out to someone who commented on my last blog entry about my new ThinkPad T43P - "ozczecho". Once I reformatted and did a fresh install it was like night and day, and my ThinkPad now sprints instead of jogs. It really forces me to stop and wonder if manufacturers are aware of the degredation in performance that their 3rd party software packages are often responsible for.

I will say this, though - I'm still frustrated that IBM can't simply step up and supply a real keyboard. The misplaced CTRL key and the missing Windows key is STILL getting to me and it seems like such a silly and insignificant couple of failures to keep polluting your new machines with.

No problem Russ - like u after a fresh install the Thinkpad performed well - and some of the IBM software is actually quite useful.

As for keyboards, IBM have a history of stuffing around with keys and positions, couple years back their desktop range cam with these funky looking keyboards, except they shuffled the home, end, delete, ins keys...horrible - nearly as bad a Microsofts "F-Lock" feature....

Thinkpads are now from Lenovo (IBM sold their computer line to Lenovo a chinese company who has for years been manufacturing them for IBM).. and the new models such as the Z60m do have the windows keys included - you can see a review at

http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2599

that highlights this fact and other changes that bring them into feature parity with other leading notebooks. Good stuff - old IBM keyboard and modern touches.
