And I guess things would be a bit different if Notepad2 was really greatly enhanced.

Florian has done a great job (something MS hasn't been able to do) so it is a bit unfortunate for this to happen...hopefully the developer(s) of the forked project will reconsider their move and name their fork of Notepad2 to something distinguishable....

this was not about re-distribution. I have received requests for allowing the re-destribution of GhostDoc e.g. on a magazine CD in the past and I had little problem doing the (very little) paperwork involved.

By the way, the situation has been resolved in the meantime. After declining to sign the two pages of legal verbage, the company managed to reduce the whole text down to *one* important sentence - that I should not use the name of the company to endorse or promote GhostDoc. No problem with that: I don't mention the name, end of story.

Otherwise you are stating that you do want to sign something in the license.

I understand your feelings to not expose yourself anymore than necessary. My mom (a nurse) asked me to write a drug dosage calculation program and I told her no. The hospital would have to release me of potential liability if the calculations were ever wrong.

I wonder if there is a standard freeware license that you could use (like they have for open source) that corporate lawyers understand and can approve for use. I know where we work that the lawyers have to approve the use of a Open Source Software based on how the program will be used and what license it has. We can not just download anything and start using it. We do know a few standard licenses that we can use any software that has that license and not get approval.
