Little IE7 Nugget, set Taget="_Blank" to open in a new tab not a new window

I'm very happy right now. Target="_Blank" is one of my biggest enemies. The attribute has it's place, but it's far far far far far far far far far far far far (get my point?) over used. For the longest time, I've been wanting to open these items in a new tab in IE7, not a new window.

I've asked several people in casual conversation but never received a solution.

Low and behold, while snooping around Tools | Options | Tab Settings - I found this. I'm sure it's been there the whole time, but because the feature didn't say "Map _Blank to New Tab", my brain must not have processed the meaning of the label.

Tabbed Browsing - Open Popups in New Tab

I've turned it on, and my pages are now opening as I'd like them to. Thanks IE7 :)

I thought this behavior was enabled by default in IE7?  It certainly is nice, though there are circumstances where being able to force a new window without javascript would be nice.

Doesn't seem like a good idea unless you could specifiy by site. Don't really like the idea of something like a popup calendar opening in a new tab.

My version of IE7 does not have a 'tabbed browser settings' option in the 'Tools' department. In fact, the only 'options' I have are 'internet options' and there's no sign of tab settings in there.

Oh well, it's either put up with links opening in a new window or it's back to my usual browser Opera 9 which has had tabbed browsing for years.

I don't know of any version of IE7 that is without tabbed browsing.

It's there -- tools, Internet options -- which is a property page consisting of multiple property sheets.  It is the bottom fourth of the General property sheet that you start out on.  And no, it's not enabled by default.
