I'm extending the EasySearchASP.NET for Diabetes Sale

Sales have picked up for EasySearchASP.NET Diabetes Promotion toward the end of this week. I don't think I did a very good job of getting the word out about this promotion, so I'm extending it one more week (now ending Sept 7th).

Hopefully this will allow us to get to a thousand dollar figure that we can donate to the Diabetes Association.

Since I now have another week, I'll be asking my "network" friends to help me get the word out about the promotion. Last week I asked a few folks, who did indeed drop a mention, but I don't think that was enough. So I'm going to try a little harder this time.

Also, I'm not tagging this post, because I don't want anyone to get the idea that I'm spamming them. Hopefully all agree that this is a good idea.

Finally, I will only be posting one more blog entry about this, and that will be at the end of the promotion talking about the results. After all, this is my technical blog, and I think this promotion is pushing the limits (and even that a stretch) of what should be posted here.

Wish me (better??) luck this week :)

Update to The EasySearchASP.NET for Diabetes Sale

I'm very surprised that the EasySearchASP.NET for ADA numbers aren't higher. Ironically, this weeks sales are lower than average, even with all the press about the sale. Weird things happen for weird reasons.

Again, this is a big thank you to Hanselminutes for all the work that is being done. I truly enjoy the podcast, and hope that Scott's migration to Big Blue won't effect his community efforts. I have to think that they'll in fact get better, since I've heard that a key part of Scott's new job is to work with Community.

Anyway, as of today, we have the following EasySearch purchases that will be forwarded to ADA. It's a lot lower then I expected buy hey, it was wroth a try, AND.... There are still two days left on the sale. To be as transparent with the sale as possible I'll only use first names, but I wanted to say thanks to the following contributors.

  • Brett $25.15
  • James $25.15
  • Jeffrey $25.15
  • Daniel $10.15

There are still 2 full days left. Maybe people are waiting until the last minute :)

TransferBigFiles.com - So easy to use

I just received 6 emails, from the same person for a ~13 meg file. The 6 emails all had split zips, each with about a 2 meg file. So now I have to save all the zip files in the same place, and hope that my zip util (currently WinRar [which rocks]) can stitch them back together. But in this case file.zo3, had a CRC error, so the whole file transfer is bad.

I think email attachments are great, but should be limited to 1 meg or smaller. Anything else, should be sent over http or FTP. The problem is that both of those are more complicated for the average user.

The solution can be to upload your large file to a website, and then send a link to the file for download to your recipient. www.TransferBigFiles.com is run by Axosoft (a local Arizona company) and has never failed me. It's easy to use, for both the sender and the recipient. I'm sure there are other solutions, but this has worked well fro me 100's of times. This is all web based, there is nothing to install on either end to use the service.

Oh ya, I almost forgot, it's free :)

I found a way to support Hanselminutes

I have a 35 minute commute to and from work, and lately I've started listening to Scott Hanselman's Hanselminutes.com. It's a great show. Scott and Carl have a nice banter style conversation that (I think) includes most of the audience. Scott get's started talking about something to deep, and Carl says "wait a minute; so you mean ...."

This blog post, started out as a simple "thank you" to Scott and Carl for producing Hanselminutes. But then I thought, they've heard that before. Of course they know it's a good show, look at the following. Instead of just saying thank you, I've decided to say thank you financially by giving to the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Scott has a goal of raising $50,000 for ADA, and as of today, he's only reached 45% of his goal. Uhh, it's August, if something doesn't happen soon, that goal doesn't look like it's going to be hit.

I have a product called EasySearchASP.net. It's a little search engine product that is very easy to use, and is meant to be plug-n-play style for an asp.net website. It's a great little product that works well for content sites that have less than 2500 pages. The only draw back is that it doesn't support indexing binary (PDF, DOC, XLS) files. But if your site (like most sites) is textual, then it's a great product. The product sells for $99.00 and $249.00. The only difference is that the $99 version, has a 200 page limit, which is more than enough for most marketing sites.

Until the end of the August September 7th 2007, all proceeds from EasySearchASP.net will be given to ADA for Scott Hanselman to help him meet his goal. In order to get as many sales as possible, I'm offering the following coupon code "H", that will discount the price of $99 version of EasySearchASP.NET to $10.15, and the $249 version is discounted to $25.15.

Use the coupon "H" or "Hanselman", and the discounted prices will be displayed on the product page.

I would also challenge other companies to steeply discount there products with a "H" or "Hanselman" coupon code. Let's get Scott to his $50,000 goal.

Google Calendar Down?

Is it just mine, or is everyone's Google calendar down?

[UPDATE]

This service was down for about 30 minutes, and then came back. Now it seems to be working fine.
