VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Beta 2

I’m happy to announce that today we shipped the Beta 2 release of Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4.0.  You can download it now.

VS 2010 and .NET Improvements

VS 2010 and .NET 4 bring a huge number of improvements and additions. They include big advances for ASP.NET web development, WPF and WinForms client development, SharePoint development, Silverlight development, data development, parallel computing development, and cloud computing development.  VS 2010 also delivers a ton of improvements in the core IDE, code editors, programming languages, and enterprise design, architect, and testing tools.

TFS 2010 is now easy to install (only 20 minutes to setup source control, bug and work item tracking, build automation, and continuous integration), can be installed on both servers as well as client OS and domain controller machines, and is now included with all MSDN subscriptions of Visual Studio.

I’ve started a series of blog posts that will cover some of the improvements and feature additions in VS 2010 and .NET 4.  Stay tuned to my blog as I post many, many more posts over the coming months.

VS 2010 Product Line SKU Simplifications

With VS 2010 we are simplifying the product lineup and pricing options of Visual Studio, as well as adding new benefits for MSDN subscribers.  With VS 2010 we will now ship a simpler set of SKU options:

  • Visual Studio Express: Free Express SKUs for Web, VB, C#, and C++
  • Visual Studio 2010 Professional with MSDN: Professional development tools as you are used to today with the addition of source control integration, bug tracking, build automation, and more. It also includes 50 hours/month of Azure cloud computing.
  • Visual Studio 2010 Premium with MSDN: Premium has everything in Professional plus advanced development tools (including richer profiling and debugging, code coverage, code analysis and testing prioritization), advanced database support, UI testing, and more.  Rather than buying multiple “Team” SKUs like you would with VS 2008, you can now get this combination of features in one box with VS 2010. It also includes 100 hours/month of Azure cloud computing.
  • Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate with MSDN: Ultimate has everything in Premium plus additional advanced features for developers, testers, and architects including features like Intellitrace (formerly Historical Debugging), the new architecture tools (UML, discovery), test lab management, etc.  It also includes 250 hours/month of Azure cloud computing.

Side by Side Support with VS 2008

VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 can be installed side-by-side on the same machine as VS 2008 and .NET 3.5.  You can install the Beta 2 version on a machine and it will not impact your existing VS 2008 / .NET 3.5 development.

Go-Live License Available

.NET 4 and VS 2010 Beta 2 include a “go-live” license which means you can start using the products for production projects.

Summary

VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 deliver some significant new capabilities and improvements. The goal with today’s Beta 2 release was to work hard on performance, stability, and the integration of the overall feature set.  The team’s focus is now transitioning to getting your feedback on the product and preparing for the final release candidate (RC) milestone.  Please send us any feedback you have on the Beta 2 release.

Hope this helps,

Scott

  • TFS beta 2 rocks Scott!!

  • Great stuff Scott :)
@brian_henderson twitted today that "In VS2010 B2, *Add New Reference* dialog is async, and pops on tab you want.. no UI block :) " We developer have been waiting for that for long time. Finally my life will be much easier and faster... Cool :D

  • Great! Been using the beta for a while now on some personal projects and so far things are looking pretty good. Loving the VB changes for multi-line statements without the underscore and some of the other little tweaks. I will have to grab beta2 and will be awaiting commercial release!

  • I'm just excited that the blurry font issue is fixed.

  • NICE!!!
Is true? TFS now doesn't need a Server SO??? That'll be nice for normal people like me who need Source Control but can't afford a Server SO

  • Finally, im sick at home (flue) but I'm downloading the bits to play with them for the next couple days.

  • great release! we want to see more from microsoft in line of development tools.

  • What's with the "with MSDN" on the SKUs. Surely you can buy this without MSDN subscription?

  • I have Beta 1 already on my machine, should i removed it first before install Beta 2 or keep it??
    VS 2010 Rocks :)

  • Visual Studio it's a great tool for programming, but VS2010 it's awesome, thanks again Scott, and see you @ PDC.

  • Scott, what happended to the standard edition? Will there be any upgrade path from the Standard edition?

  • 50 hours og azure computing hours means no small Web projects As theese should be online ?

But what an incredible release - can't wait to foil around

  • very nice! further more, i like the style of vs2010, can i use it for my vs2008?

  • @Jose,

    >>>>>>>> NICE!!! Is true? TFS now doesn't need a Server SO??? That'll be nice for normal people like me who need Source Control but can't afford a Server

Yes - you can now install TFS on a client OS on Vista or Win7. It no longer requires a server operating system and now works with SQL Express.

    Hope this helps,

    Scott

  • @Ahmed,

    >>>>>>> I have Beta 1 already on my machine, should i removed it first before install Beta 2 or keep it??

You'll want to completely uninstall VS 2010 Beta1 before installing Beta2.

    Hope this helps,

    Scott

  • @Matt,

    >>>>>>>> What's with the "with MSDN" on the SKUs. Surely you can buy this without MSDN subscription?

You can still buy VS Professional without MSDN. I'd recommend looking at MSDN though, since the prices for VS Professional w/ MSDN are now very close to the regular price (but come with a lot more).

    Hope this helps,

    Scott

  • @jack,

    >>>>>>>> very nice! further more, i like the style of vs2010, can i use it for my vs2008?

The UI style is done with WPF (which is what the new VS 2010 shell is written in) - so unfortunately you can't use it with VS 2008.

    Sorry!

    Scott

  • @lynn,

    >>>>>>>>> Scott, what happended to the standard edition? Will there be any upgrade path from the Standard edition?

With VS 2010 we won't have a standard edition (but we will have the free express editions - which continue to get richer). We will have upgrades to VS Professional for existing Standard customers though.

    Hope this helps,

    Scott

  • Hope the upgrade to TFS2010 is a smooth one! Upgrading from tfs2005 to tfs2008 still brings me nighmares!

    grtz P

  • UI looks dull especially the menus. Also I hate the dark blue color for the toolbox, sln explorer etc.

  • Wooww... These is awesome... I would love to play around with it...

  • Scott, looking forward to trying this out. I hope it's faster than Beta 1, I don't know if WPF was necessary in an IDE, but now that it's here, you should make sure it's not slow.

Also, please tell me the express editions includes a unit test runner. If it doesn't, please reconsider. Unit testing is NOT a a PROFESSIONAL feature, it's a MUST-HAVE feature for each and every developer out there. And I don't say this for me, we use Pro at work, I say this for all starting and student developers out there. Once they are past week 1 of the drag-and-drop video tutorials you do want them to write good code don't you?

    Thanks for considering!

  • Great news for sure.

  • Can beta 2 be installed on a producten developer machine next to visual studio 2008 without any problems, or should I install vs2010 beta 2 in a virtual machine ??

  • I've got this downloading, but I just can't wait...

Does anyone who already has it installed know if it has ASP.NET MVC 2 support built-in? Really want to start developing with jquery validation, and the new HTML-safe string code blocks.

  • When will we get pricing information?

  • Hi Scott,

congratulation for the good work.. your blog says Beta 2 will be available for download on wednesday for everyone, so my curious question is, does wednesday means US time wednesday?? I live in Australia and we are I guess arnd 15 - 18 hrs ahead of the US..plz clarify.. cheers

  • The version of MVC2 is GoLive too? Also, is EFv4 also GoLive? Is it the Beta 2 released in August? Does it include CTP released in August?

  • Does the "source control integration" of Professional edition include a TFS client license or do you have to get the Premium edition to get that?

  • Hi Scott, is VS 2010 beta 2 compatible with ASP.NET MVC 1?

  • There is a chance to see a ribbon in the thing? I thought that the ribbon was created to cure the tens-of-toolbars-that-turn-on-and-off syndrome, which VS2008 certainly suffers.

  • "Free Express SKUs for Web, VB, C#, and C++ " - no F# Express?

  • Scott, Since you metioned VS Standard is going away is there any chance that VS Express will have more support SQL Server Standard. I am hoping VWD 2010 Express at least still lets us use Entity Framework for SQL Standard. Thanks.

  • ASP.NET MVC 2.0 and Silverlight SDK 3.0 failed to be installed with VS2010. Is there a solution to that?

  • Scott, looks good but will miss the Standard Edition. Will have to take a look at the feature sets...

Really looking forwards to .Net 4 and seeing how your WPF app performs (VS2010).

  • Anyone know where to post feedback on this very nice release?
The code block highlight feature flicks when you mouse over the 'line graphics' (next to the line numbers) and could maybe use a short time-out before showing the grey highlighting.

  • Twiddling my thumbs until Wednesday. Stupid purchasing department let my MSDN subscription expire :(

  • Intellitrace is only going to be available in the Ultimate edition? In other words this won't be available to the average developer, unless he wants to spend $12,000...

  • So after all the hype about IntelliTrace, it turns out that it will be limited to only the ivory tower edition, where almost no one will get to use it. I really don't understand the marketing decisions being made for 2010.

  • Will VS 2010 support writing Use Cases and Test Plans?

  • Has the .NET Framework 4 feature set and namespaces been frozen, or do we run the risk of breaking code if we go live.

  • Hi Scott,
any news about net Ria services? Will this release be compatible with them? and if not, when it is planned to do this?

    Thanks

  • I have VS 2008 Pro, but not an MSDN sub. So will have to wait until later this week to download the new beta.

I assume there will be an option to upgarde VS 2008 (Pro) to VS 2010 (Pro). But will there be an upgrade option to VS 2010 with MSDN? Or does that require the full purchase?

  • I'm excited to download this puppy

  • Thanks Scott, your blog is the most beneficial and a must read for every .Net developer. I really like the TFS installation option without having to buy a server license.

  • why i can't install it on a win7 x64?? :((

  • Hi Scott,

Can we install Beta 2 on a machine on which we later intend to install RTM without anticipating major issues at that time? (the lingering ghost of betas has been a problem in the past).

Many of us with an interest in mobile development had been hoping that that option would be added back to the Standard option in VS 2010, but since Standard no longer exists that obviously won't happen. Especially given that so many of us are in a markedly worse financial position than we were when 2008 was released, that arguably leaves mobile development tools outside the reach of non-Enterprisey developers.
I do think that's a barrier to having those developers help make Windows Mobile an attractive option for consumers - if I'd known Standard was going I'd have resumed my Quixotic, doomed quest to persuade Microsoft to add a mobile-oriented Express SKU (which would be consistent with the old situation with the embedded Visual Tools, which contributed greatly to creating a healthy software ecosystem for Pocket PC earlier in the decade)

  • Will it work with team foundation server 2008 ?

  • Any chance of x64 versions of devenv.exe and mstest.exe? Would be great for our build servers to be pure 64-bit, and we have some x64 only dependent assemblies for our solution.

  • Text is still lot blurry for me... (trying under vmware)

  • I installed VS2010 Beta 2 today. I agree with earlier posts. WPF based studio with make developers stick with VS2008. I do not understand why they had to pick WPF. I do not think one success can apply everywhere. Please switch back to not WPF back or prepare to loose developers.

  • This is great Scott, but I cant figure out how to deploy a precompiled web application. Any links to help? The deploy works, but I cant find any option to precompile.

  • Scott, what about pricing with Standard option removed? It was much more powerful than Express for only $300. I've seen some ideas on ArsTechnica -- they posted Professional SKU with $800 price tag. In this case we don't really have a middle ground between Express and Pro. Unless Express now has all the features that Std had.

Also, is there an upgrade option for 2005 Standard users (2005 Std -> 2010 Pro)?

  • Now started Twitter first time

  • Is there a public download of TFS 2010 ?

  • Thank ü ScottGu and the Microsoft Team!

  • @Mike,

    >>>>>>> Also, please tell me the express editions includes a unit test runner. If it doesn't, please reconsider. Unit testing is NOT a a PROFESSIONAL feature, it's a MUST-HAVE feature for each and every developer out there. Unfortunately the express editions won't have a built-in unit test runner this time (although you can download and use nunit which has a unit test runner with the express skus).

Our dreamspark, websitespark and bizspark programs (which enable free licneses to students, startups and web developers) include the professional or higher edition of VS though - so those free versions will have the built-in VS Pro unit test runner.

    Hope this helps,

  • @Iain,

    >>>>>>> Does anyone who already has it installed know if it has ASP.NET MVC 2 support built-in? Really want to start developing with jquery validation, and the new HTML-safe string code blocks.

    Yes - ASP.NET MVC 2 is built-in.

  • @Martin,

    >>>>>>>> Can beta 2 be installed on a producten developer machine next to visual studio 2008 without any problems, or should I install vs2010 beta 2 in a virtual machine ??

You should be able to install beta2 on a machine with VS 2008 on it without problems (that is what i do).

    Hope this helps,

    Scott

VS 2010 doesn't itself use a ribbon UI. We are supporting a WPF Ribbon control with WPF 4.0 that you can use though.

    Hope this helps,

  • @Abhijeet,

    >>>>>>>> Scott: I have both Beta1 of Visual Studio 2010 and Beta 1 of TFS installed on a VM, should I remove BOTH before installing Beta2?

Yes - I'd recommend installing all Beta1 components before installing Beta2.

    Scott

  • @Fallon,

    >>>>>>>> Has the .NET Framework 4 feature set and namespaces been frozen, or do we run the risk of breaking code if we go live.

In general APIs are pretty much locked - although we don't make guarentees on this with Beta2. But in general the number of code changes between Beta2 and RTM should be pretty minimal.

    Hope this helps,

    Scott

  • @Alberto,

    >>>>>>>> any news about net Ria services? Will this release be compatible with them? and if not, when it is planned to do this?

We'll be delivering an updated RIA services soon that works with Beta2.

    >>>>>>> I assume there will be an option to upgarde VS 2008 (Pro) to VS 2010 (Pro). But will there be an upgrade option to VS 2010 with MSDN? Or does that require the full purchase?

Yes - we'll have upgrade options and pricing available to those who have bought VS 2008 (all editions - not just MSDN).

    Hope this helps,

    Scott

  • @razman,

Our plan is to enable this.

We haven't announced our plans with mobile and tooling yet, but are definitely

If you can send me an email (scottgu@microsoft.com) with details of your machine we can take a look. In general we haven't heard much/any complaints about text blurriness with beta2 so far (it was an issue with beta1 though). If you can send me details we can investigate.

  • @Alex,

    >>>>>>>>> Scott, what about pricing with Standard option removed? It was much more powerful than Express for only $300. I've seen some ideas on ArsTechnica -- they posted Professional SKU with $800 price tag. In this case we don't really have a middle ground between Express and Pro. Unless Express now has all the features that Std had.

We have plans for a version in that price-point - but haven't announced details yet. We will announce more in the future though.

    >>>>>>>>>> Also, is there an upgrade option for 2005 Standard users (2005 Std -> 2010 Pro)?

  • Hi Scott, what time does this become available to non MSDN subscribers?

  • What about javascript code folding (aka outlining). Is this finally in? Cannot use VS as JS editor without.

  • Has anyone else encountered a failure when clicking the "Install Documentation" button on the "Success" page of VS2010 Professional setup? I'm encountering a crash in "MSHelpListener.exe" where it looks like (at least from the Error signature) a system.net.httplistenerexception is being thrown =(

  • When the ISO installer will be available (as it was for beta 1)?

Lots of devs have been using Win2008 Server as a dev machine. With Win2008 R2 being 64bit only, will VS2010 install and run properly on Win2008 R2?
This probably has become less of an issue now that we have Win7 32bit, but still I am curious...

  • Can you let me know where is the link for VS2010 beta 2 ultimate full image
    I don't want's to use web installer

  • Scott, about beta 2, It looks like the problem is VMware, when you disable hw accelerated wpf from windows registry, text is fine and not that blurry like before:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Avalon.Graphics]
    "DisableHWAcceleration"=dword:00000001

    fixes the problem for now

  • how to install it offline anybody suggest me

  • Available to non MSDN now :)

  • I see now there is only web setup of Beta 2 for NOT MSDN subcribers. There will be ISO too downloadble for all?
    You guys rock!!!

  • When will the iso images be available for download for non MSDN subscription users? The Web installer seems to be conking off after some time.

  • Hi Scott,

although VS2010 has some really good improvements it seems that it is more a beta 0.5 than beta 2:
    - Properties tab in the right lower corner: sometimes the cell for an entry has a too big height (2x to 10x) but when hoovering with the mouse the height changes, sometimes to the right height
    - VS 2010 closed itself without reason (2 times this afternoon)
    - Move from code editor to XAML editor lasts even longer than in VS2008 (and in VS2008 its bad with about 10 seconds on a Core2Duo 2,1GH) and:
    - move from XAML to code last several seconds, too (in contrast to VS2008)
    - when changing/typing an attached property in the <Window... -Tag of a Window in XAML VS didn´t respond at all for about 5-6 seconds (try this: type in ??? How can I change the blurry WPF-Text to the crisp one in the editors?

And second: The Intellisense list is in XAML editor blurry and in code editor crisp (or vice versa I don´t know anymore).

All tested under vmWare 7.0, Guest: XP SP 2, Host XP SP 3
    Kind regards

  • We need Visual F# Express.

  • Hi Scott,
So far I am liking the Beta2 version with rich aesthetic start page (without the RSS Feed on previous versions of VS) and lot of enhancements and features.
But I would like to comment on couple of things here:
    1. The tooltip font (both looks odd when compared with the font size of the code in the editor
    2. It lacks the yellow background (unlike in the previous versions) which makes the tip less prominent.

Any ideas will this be restored back in the full version of VS 2010?

  • Congratulations! Didn't take a deep look on it but definitly it's faster than Beta 1.

Just one question: Are you planning to add "HTML 5" schema option to the ASP.NET Target Schema menu on the toolbar?

  • Hi Scott,
This is good news! Is there an approximate release date for the RTM of VS 2010?

  • Hi Razman,

Win7 on X64 is supported. I noticed that you said on a thread to scott that re-downloading the ISO image solved your issue. I am glad to hear that.

    Best regards!

  • Hi Razman,

Installing Visual Studio 2010 on Win7 X64 is supported. I noticed that from an email thread to Scott, you were able to solve your issue by re-downloading the ISO. Good News!

  • So will the final release support Windows Mobile development or not?
    Beta 2 doesn't support it.

  • @Vincent
    >>>>>>>>> I received this error inside XP Mode with one .net framework 3.5 installed

    Hi Vincent,

We do not support running the Visual Studio 2010 installation using XP mode on Vista or Win7. The reason, is that the setup process determines what OS version and archicture you have installed then it attempts to install the correct package. Some packages we install are different depending on whether you install on XP, Vista or Win7 and even some packages are different between Servicing levels on an OS. The Compatibilty mode fakes out the Setup code and installs the wrong packages, which incidently cause setup to fail.

I wrote a blog post about this issue: http://blogs.msdn.com/aaronru/archive/2009/06/09/please-do-not-install-visual-studio-2010-in-compatibility-mode.aspx

  • Hi,
I have a general question which I would like some advice on VS2010 beta.
If you create a LINQDataSource and connect to a simple table with a couple of fields as shown below.
    CREATE TABLE [dbo].[tblTest](
    [TestId] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
    [TestName] [varchar](50) NULL,
    [TestInt] [int] NULL,
    [TestReal] [real] NULL,
    [Testdatetime] [datetime] NULL,
    [Test_TS] [timestamp] NULL,
    CONSTRAINT [PK_tblTest] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
    (
    [TestId] ASC
    )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY]
    ) ON [PRIMARY]
And you construct a FormView to allow records in this table to be edited, then the FormView control will fail to perform the update on a record unless you enter values in all the fields.
Also when you insert a new record this also fails, unless you give a value for every field.
Also any existing record with a null in the numeric or datetime fields, can not be edited.
Can you give me some advice on this please.

  • Hey ,
After I installed VS2010 beta 2 , I've created WCF services, ran through silverlight apps, and much more. Am pretty excited about the whole thing.
Only that I found this silly issue in Ajax. Just created a new project dragged a sql datasource, binded with a table in a DB. I enabled the automatic queries of select, edit, update. After that I dropped a grid, binded to this datasource and set it to allow edit, delete. Now I placed these two controls inside a update panel ( assuming that there is a script manager on the page) and now when I try editing or deleting, the page refreshes. The same thing I tried in VS2008 and it works perfect, doesn't refresh the page. Is there something small I missed or have they changed something in AJAX?

  • I had been looking forward for this release and full marks for the making the new version so productive. ( I was so anxious to install that, I was frequently refreshing major Microsoft blogger website on Oct 21st midnight...but had no luck downloading before going to bed.) Unfortunately I am stuck with installation problem which is preventing me from getting an hands on experience on new features. Here comes the problem I faced/facing with VS2010Beta2 Ultimate. Greatly appreciate if you could direct me or provide some kind of solution for this as I am looking forward to play around VS this weekend.

Experience Installing vs2010 Ultimate on XP machine(Xp professional SP3, 4GB,32bit,2.99 GHz,Intell Core Duo CPU)

First install was unsuccessful. But somehow I was able to open the application but could make out something was missing as I use to get some error pops up. So I reinstalled it. This time I got the successfully installed message but while trying to open the application, the window application opens without control gallery. The application is not usable. At the status bar of the application I can see error message as “Loading toolbox from package ‘Microsoft.Data.Entity.Design.Package …blah blha”. What could be the problem…??

Experience installing vs2010beta2 on vista .(Home premium,4 GB Ram,2.60 Ghz, Intell Core Duo CPU)

Successfully got installed message was seen after installing. The application is usable, but after few minutes of opening vs2010 , I get a dialog window with error message as “Application folder not found”. What could be the problem.

Common problem with both installation: The application is very slow to use. It is not as fast as vs2008 in switching b/w design and code window.

    Thanks in advance...

  • We can't buy new machines everytime a new VS is released! I hope at least that the "Initializing Toolbox" five minute forced coffee break is gone in VS2010...

  • Getting error in Creating SharePoint 2010 C# any project type. I have installed vs2010 beta 2 installed on a server (win 2008) that has SharePoint 2010 Beta 1 from TAP program. However, I am able to browse the SharePoint 2010 site through SharePoint explorer in vs2010 beta 2. What setting is the vs2010 looking for? Any response or help is appreciated.

  • Hi Scott,
Just installed vs2010 beta2 on my dev machine and have a major problem, it wont let me connect to my remote sharepoint server. Please tell me this can be done??

  • @mike - for your installation issue, it appears to be similar to what william was seeing. Can you also try doing what I suggested him try? If that doesn't work then I would also be happy to look at your installation logs and help you determine the issue.

  • @Paul - sorry to hear that you've been having problems, if you follow the steps I provided (@william) to collect your logs (see step 2:http://blogs.msdn.com/aaronru/archive/2009/10/19/guidance-on-posting-on-the-forums-or-sending-aaron-ruckman-feedback.aspx) then send me (aaronru(a)microsoft_dot_com) a link to them. I would be happy to see if I could help you determine a workaround.

  • Hi I recently bought a new sony vaio with windows 7 64-bit.
I'm installing via iso. The first install took a long time it seem to hang at "microsoft asp.net mvc 2 - visual studio 2010 tools" so i ended the process and restart the computer and tried installing it again. I chose the second option "reinstall" because the first option "add/remove features" seemed insufficient. When I see the installing components list I only see the components from the beginning (microsoft application error reporting" to the "microsoft asp.net mvc 2 - visual studio 2010 tools" component. Do I have to reinstall in a different way? Maybe uninstall and then install again?

    thanks.

  • Hating the new help with a passion. It's nearly totally useless. The fulltext search is terrible and the help listener slows down my typing noticably. I really hope this isn't what we're going to see in the released product.

  • Wow, great news, I'm liking it so far.

I do have a question about the EULA, though.

    Section 3

    d. Personal Information. You may not use the software to design, develop or test programs that collect personally identifiable or confidential data.
    e. Commerce Transactions. You may not use the software to design, develop or test programs that conduct e-commerce transactions (exchange of goods or services by means of the Internet or other computer networks), including without limitation any shipping, credit card, monetary or other banking transactions.

Are these going to be removed from the final EULA?

I'm a little concerned that I can't design an e-commerce site using VS2010-beta 2, even if I'm not going to actually go live until well after the release is available.

  • IMHO it's still way too "beta" to start using in production environments.
After i rearranged windows and dock them differently to put them all in a separate window on my second screen, vs2010 would keep crashing all the time when i'd open one of my big project, or when i'd work on it.
Also, i've never been able to use the online help, help->manage help setting, never had a "settings" link for me, and only offered to set the path for offline help.

Apart from those serious issues, it was nice to see that speed was rgeatly improved in beta 2. (although i hope, you'll still work on it.)

  • Can we install VS 2010 to VMWARE. because i tried it to install to XP and W7. both of them i faced same problem. i installed .net framework beta 2 and then trid to install VS 2010 again. but i did not success it. did anyone tried to install to VMWARE?

  • Thanks Scott, I will try VS 2010.

  • Erkan: Yes, I did that. Host XP SP3, Guest XP SP2, VmWare 7.0 beta. But be carefull: When using XP SP2 as Guest make shure (via Windows Update) that you have installed every (!) .NET security update when only .NET 2.0 is installed (that means really only updates, not .NET 3.0/3.4). Then install VS2010, it installs .net 4.0beta2 automatically.

  • The price is too high for many programer and small company, so it's maybe harm to Microsoft business if many programer transform to other platform (such as OpenSource platform or Mac), I think the decesion is veru bad, you should deliver very cheaper developing tools to develpoer. You should know the Windows success based on many developer support it and the recently IPhone success also based on it's app, if many developer can't afford for IDE, maybe MS will lose many developer for developing app for windows.

  • Too bad about no Standard edition - it has always been just right for me (would prob use Express but for the add-ons need). Will not pay extra to upgrade to Pro, rather will just use Express and learn to live without resharper. Would be pretty happy sticking with 2008 actually, but .net 4.0 has some nice features.

  • Thanks for the GOOD News, I will install it right now...

  • Same as Paul's comments above installed Beta 2 Ultimate on Windows 7 and New Project Dialog looks strange?
    Regards Lisa

  • It will be very helpful especially for .NET programmers.

  • when the full version of VS2010 is realeasing.

  • When will we see mobile development in Visual Studio 2010?
