Is Crappy Service Really Worth the Food?

I hate using my blog for rants, but this is a special rant …

We’ve been eating at Sushi Momo in Fullerton, CA for quite some time now.  Hands-down, they have the best sushi in Orange County.  The caveat to their great food is their service – which is possibly the worst service I’ve ever had at a restaurant.  This was especially notable tonight.  We arrived at the restaurant at 5:00 PM, just as they opened for dinner.  We were the first to be sat.  At 5:15 PM – not having seen the hostess or any server since being sat – I started to get frustrated.  This was mostly because I saw the same hostess that sat us serving drinks to the 20 other people who had arrived just after us.  At 5:25 PM – still not having been seen by ANYONE at the freakin’ restaurant, I decided to give up on the joint.  While leaving, my party delivered some expletives to the stupid hostess, which incited some punks at the sushi bar to speak up.  To spare arrest, and possible jail time, we decided to deliver yet another few colorful remarks and depart.

If you enjoy really good sushi, and like to be treated like shit, then visit Momo.  However, if you like to be treated like a human being (or even like family), then try Sato Sushi – also in Fullteron.

The National D-Day Museum

Not to downplay my excitement for MAX 2004 – but the best part about my recent trip to New Orleans was definitely the National D-Day Museum.

I am a big Stephen Ambrose fan (Band of Brothers), and had read about the museum since it’s opening in 2000.  I had not previously had the opportunity to visit, as New Orleans was not on my list of preferred destinations.  However, speaking at MAX provided me with such an opportunity.

I spent over 4 ½ hours at the museum, and did not have enough time to see everything!  The artifacts at the museum were incredible, and the recreation of scenes from the Normandy – such as the glider crash, pillbox bunker and hedgerow – was outstanding.  I was surprised to discover that the museum was located in New Orleans because of the contributions made by Andrew Higgins, who built the landing craft used in the amphibious invasions.  President Eisenhower believed that these landing craft were the reason the Allies succeeded – pretty amazing.

If you are ever in New Orleans – or are thinking of taking the trip – then you must stop by this museum.  They are currently working on an expansion, which will cover other D-Days, such as North Africa.

MAX 2004 ... Too Much Fun!

It's Friday, and I am still groggy from all of the fun we had out in New Orleans!  I am short on time, but will be posting a full report shortly.  For those of you who attended my session and are looking for the demos, I will be posting them here in the next few days (after cleaning them up, adding build notes for the Java components, etc.)
