Less Talk, More Rock

R.I.P Mitch Hedberg (1968 - 2005)

I awoke this morning to morning to a weird message from my friend Jason.  He mentioned that he'd heard a radio station announce that Mitch Hedberg died!  When I heard his message, I frantically searched the Internet for validation (or hopes that it was an April fools joke.)  I could find nothing.

Then, about 10 minutes ago, I Googled his name and found this link.

It is a sad day for sure.  My good friend Warren introduced me to Mitch back in 2001.  He's witty one-liners were unforgettable, and I've shared his comedy with many of my friends.  His career had only just begun to blossom, and it's sad to say goodbye.

The cause of death is still unknown - but some say it may be drug related.  Mitch was only 37; much too young to die.  It's a sad day for all of us, indeed.

omg this is the worst news I've heard since Hunter S Thompson decided to take his own life. Mitch was my 2nd favorite comedian (Eddie Izzard being #1)...unfortunately I'm inclined to think it was drug related as well. Simply awful.

Sometimes when people come into my office they look at the few pictures on my desk and say, "oh who's that, your brother?" and I say, "No, that's Mitch"

I am shocked and deeply saddened.
I was upset about not catching him in NYC last month.
So just now, watching him on the Comedy Channel, I Googled him to see where his next gig would be.
I guess that would be Heaven.

I just couldn't believe it. It was a little past 9:30 pm and I had just finished watching Mitch's half hour comedy special on Comedy Central, for the hundreth time it felt like... when at that moment, they showed the end of the show again, where he said he loved the audience and there was in white writing "Mitch Hedberg 1968-2005" Obviously it was not long ago, so I freaked out! It's only April 1st, and my mother's birthday. I went searching the net to see when it happened, and found several sites with the same information... I couldn't help but break down and cry. He was an amazing entertainer, and he will be missed. I only hoped it would get a bit more public interest than it's been receiving. I hope his family is coping well with his untimely death from a heart attack.

I just finished watching Mitch Hedberg's special on Comedy Central when I saw "Mitch Hedberg 1968-2005." It is a tragedy to the comedy world. Mitch had great jokes and still had many more to tell and they will be sadly missed. Mitch you are my favorite comedian may you rest in peace.

What a shame...my heart broke to hear the news of such an awesome comedian and a seemingly great person being taken at the young age of 37. I'm getting de ja vu from when Chris Farley and Phil Hartman died...What a major bummer...I too saw Mitch's Comedy Central special...it confirmed what my brother and I hoped was a rumour...Rest in Piece Mitch...we'll miss you.

I didn't know he this intil I saw his special on TV (like many others). He was without a doubt the greatest comedian I've seen. The world will be a lot less funny without Mitch Hedberg, even after hearing his jokes dozens of times there still hilarious. Rest In Peace Mitch, your jokes will never die.

Mitch was a great man and dedicated his life to make strangers life. If you haven't yet, buy his cd/dvd, "Mitch All Together" and watch his uncut version of his special, or as Mitch called it his, "Not so special." As with a lot of you, I found out he died by watching the end of his Comedy Central Presents on T.V. He will be missed by all, but if you feel sad, laugh at his jokes and remember that he's making Lennon, Garcia, and probably Jesus laugh in heaven. Rest in Peace Mitch. Remember to love each other. That's what he would have wanted.

This is a real shame indeed, such a wonderfully talented comedian cut down by drugs. All I gotta say is, if you play you pay, plain and simple. And to think, Mitch could have gone farther than he already has with the talents God gave him if he had not gotten involved with drugs.
