Chm files and 404 Errors

I must say I was amazed that when I downloaded the latest Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Administrators Guide I only got 404 errors on every page in the contents. I downloaded the file another time, to no avail. I gave up and thought: well, the file must be corrupted. But no: this is one more step by Microsoft to provide us ultimate security!

I stumbled across this blog entry by Mark Kruger that provided the solution:

1. Right-click the CHM file, and then click Properties.
2. Click Unblock.
3. Double-click the .chm file to open the file.

Same happens when you try to open a .chm file from a remote location on a LAN for instance. In order to have it working, copy the .chm file to your local system and open it...

Same problem when opening from an URL. Saving to disk and opening will solve the problem (local=full trust).
When you created the documentation using NDoc, it may be a solution to open the Html-files generated by NDoc, instead of the resulting CHM.

I encountered this after i downloaded the VSTS install guide. Luckily the download page had this info in the bottom, thats how i figured this out. I was kind of annoyed at first when i couldn't read the help file, went back read through the whole download page and there it was in the bottom.
