Football and the Development Process
What does football have to do with the development process? I have no idea. Probably nothing. But Football season is definitely back upon us. In true Pre season fashion, the NY Giants are on their way to losing as many games as they possibly can. Now i tell myself that this is just preseason, don't worry about it. I do however worry about it, I remember when some coaches (the tuna) used to try to win every preseason game to develop a winning attitude. Well that was then this is now and the tuna is a cowboy. Coach Fassel has done more than enough to deserve the benefit of quite a few doubts. I think he really understands well how to play the psychological aspects of football, how to apply and releave pressure when needed for his team. Hey, there's my segway.
As some of you may know, one of the concerns that I've had with my current workplace is that we may not have been applying the software development life cycle correctly. That was pretty stressful. It basically was like trying to drive across country in a car that only had one firing cylinder. Well recently I've been involved in efforts and meetings that seek to address these issues. And i know that no single or group of meetings can ever serve as a miracle cure, they are however very rewarding. To be able to quantify various concerns about how a situation is or isn't working correctly and then be able to suggest a good solution for the problem is a very cool thing. It was quite a relief of stress I'd say. I'm happy to report that things are doing much better. We're well on our way to having a really powerful and capable development workflow.
I'm also very happy to report that tommorrow I'll be going to the Dave Matthews Band concert. I'm extremely excited for that show, I really love how into his music he gets. Its cool to watch someone who's that passionate about what they do. I'm also very happy that College Football season is starting on Saturday. My favorite team the Michigan Wolverines are ranked somewhere between 5th and 6th on most polls (i think). The best part about this season, the wolverines play ohio state at home in november & Ohio state is looking to win the national championship. Many many times Michigan has gotten the privilege of being the spoiler. I look forward to watching that game!!!
I think the next blog which hopefully will be much sooner than 3 weeks from now, will discuss threading and .net. I've been working on a custom self managing thread pooling class. I'm having a blast doing this! If anyone has any ideas for cool utilities or projects to develop, preferably non ui based things. (ie a Threadpool or CacheHelper etc.. ) or perhaps even a server application of some sort (a .NET Service) Please send em along. I love working on fun little side projects like that. They don't have to be original or even directly useful. Just fun with moving parts is all that's required.
until next time.
