I used a simple control like this which kept the demo short.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Its wrapped in an update Panel that controls all the AJAX requests.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;It should compile fine in 2.0, just remove the Linq using statements, I think it should work (but could be wrong). Give it a shot and if you have any issues I would be happy to make you a .NET 2.0 version that would work for you.&lt;/p&gt;
