&lt;p&gt;Excellent post (as usual). When I saw the use of the XmlDocument, and all of the Activator.CreateInstance stuff, I was wondering how it could possibly perform well!&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I was in the middle of writing an article on Eels about creating custom controls in ASP.NET MVC... now I'll have to make a referrence to this post on the 'declarative' side.&lt;/p&gt;
