Great news for speech developers!

Richard Sprague has been dropping hints about this for some time, and now Robert Brown has made the announcement that the Longhorn speech API has been included into the Avalon/indigo Beta1 I'm downloading it as I speak.

Changes to the Longhorn release plan

Mentioned here , here , and here plans for Longhorn have been delayed. It looks like WinFS and Avalon will be affected the most. I see this as good news, given my interest in getting Longhorn managed speech working on Windows XP the idea of seeing more...

I just found out that you can download a free evaluation version of Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Customer Preview This is a version that will run on the AMD 64 chip. Interesting, this install isn't available through MSDN.
