  • WPF/E = Silverlight

One of the reasons WPF/E is going to give Flash a real run for it's money is the video story. Unlike Flash, Silverlight (the new name) will support DRM, it supports the industry standard VC-1 codec used in HD-DVD and Blueray, and it can take advantage of the built-in media streaming capabilities...

  • Silverlight vs. Flash: The Developer Story

A few people didn’t like my proclaimation that Flash is dead. This is understandable. It is a bit premature to make such claims, but the Silverlight model is pretty amazing. As someone who works with Flash on an ongoing basis, I thought I'd chime in with a more in depth look at the issues....

  • May 22nd Links: ASP.NET, Visual Studio, Silverlight, WPF and .NET

One of the things I'm going to try and start doing is a weekly blog post of useful/interesting links on .NET related topics that I've found on the web. Below is this week's version: ASP.NET Downloading a File using ASP.NET with the "Save As" Dialog : Rick Strahl has a nice post on how to dynamically...

  • The Difference Between Silverlight and Apollo

Dare Obasanjo puts it best when he writes : Although Pete does a good job of explaining the goals of Adobe Apollo with a great example, I think there is a simpler and more cynical way of spelling out the difference between Silverlight and Apollo . I'd describe the projects as: Apollo is Adobe's Flash...

  • Silverlight Reflector

Just found a nice Silverlight tool by Ernie Booth to aid in my learning process. A plug in for Reflector that allows you to view Silverlight code (Javascript or Managed). Found via Mike Harsh’s blog . Its easy to use and helps me a lot in finding out about how things are done.

  • Silverlight and unsupported features

Like a lot of people lately, I have been playing with Silverlight (Alpha 1.1 version), trying to understand the nuts and bolts of it, and when that fails, just diving in and seeing how I go. I can’t say I am much of a WPF/XAML guru so things have been slow. What is hard is just diving in and trying...

  • Looking Under the Hood of Silverlight 1.1 Apps

I'm still getting my head around the alpha of Silverlight 1.1. The more I see, the more I think this is going to be huge. One of the best ways to come to grips with new technology is to look under the hood to see how it was put together. To that end, don't miss this great tool from Ernie Booth that plugs...

  • Tip/Trick: Supporting Full Screen Mode with Silverlight

One of the nice features that Silverlight supports is the ability to go "full screen" and effectively take over the entire screen of a computer (hiding everything else from sight - including the browser frame). This can be very useful when building immersive UI experiences, games, rich video players...

  • iPhone on Silverlight Promo Video?

On the Silverlight promo video did anyone notice one of the actors using a device that looks for all the world like an Apple iPhone ? ;-) Talking of the iPhone. Since its OS is based on a slimmed down version of OS X - I wonder if we can expect to see Silverlight running on the iPhone some point in the...
