Announcing Cassini 4.0

Cassini is now an open source, portable and redistributable web server. This light-weight Microsoft’s source available web server is used to be shipped with Visual Studio as integrated development server. I have revived Cassini in version 4.0 with:

Cassini4.0

This is going to stay free forever with a Microsoft Public License (Ms-PL) license. There are many usage of this tiny 160KB only web server which makes it enterprise-ready, coming up very soon. Stay tuned.

Very interesting. But what reason is there to use it instead of the more established servers?

So is it safe to assume this is based on Dmitry Robsman's Cassini project? ( blogs.msdn.com/.../cassini-support-for-friendly-urls-routing.aspx )

Outside of a couple oddities (focus was acting a little flaky on a Windows 7 Home Premium machine), this is pretty dang cool.

Nice job on the new features!

Thanks. You're right. I took it from Dmitry. Copyright messages are there in the code. Working on many new features.

Thanks Man,

Have been looking for a better way, i use Ultidev Cassini it cool but some unknown problem is that Ultidev cannot render Excel, Coms and Active X.

Can this version help us in these respect ?

Finally is there any document to show how to integrate it to visual studio 2008 and packaging it with asp.net project ready to deploy to any client computer (i.e into .MSI)

Does it support connecting from machines other than localhost?

UWS is almost IIS-like powerful, while is tiny, free and redistributable. It runs ASP.NET 4.0, 3.x, 2.0 and 1.1 applications and is integrated with InstallShield, Advanced Installer and Visual Studio Setup project to simplify bundling it with our application.
