  • ASP.NET MVC Test Framework Integration Walkthrough

Vishal’s earlier blog post, ASP.NET MVC Test Framework Integration , outlined the motivation and steps for registering a third party test framework for use with ASP.NET MVC Applications. " In lines with best practices one of the goals of this new ASP.NET framework is to enable easy unit testable web applications. To ease unit testing and to make it part of our regular application development workflow Visual Studio is introducing integration of unit test projects with ASP.NET MVC Application..." Today, I will work through the steps Vishal outlined with some actual templates I have created and then run the tests using the corresponding third party framework. Below are the relevant steps Vishal outlined in ASP.NET MVC Test Framework Integration...
  • ASP.NET MVC Test Framework Integration

Previously I gave an overview  of new tooling features for ASP.NET MVC Framework that we are hoping to make available during MIX 2008 timeframe.  You can read more about Overview of MVC Tooling Features for MIX 2008 here .  Goals: ASP.NET MVC Framework is Microsoft's implementation of MVC framework which is hugely popular in the industry for best practices and conventions.  In lines with best practices one of the goals of this new ASP.NET framework is to enable easy unit testable web applications.  To ease unit testing and to make it part of our regular application development workflow Visual Studio is introducing integration of unit test projects with ASP.NET MVC Application.  Many in the community are already...

  • Looking for strong SDET's to help with Web Development tools testing!!!!!

The test role at Microsoft and specifically the VWD team is somewhat different from a traditional test position in the software industry. Our team is responsible for redefining how professional designers, developers, academics and hobbyists design, develop and deploy web applications. Testers on our team are basically frontline developers who try out the new features. They provide feedback to directly influence the design and implementations, ensuring our features meet customer expectations, there is a significant reason to adopt and most importantly, meets a high quality bar. Testers on our team are responsible for creating an automation framework that helps to test UI features. As SDE/T's we are also responsible for stress testing, performance...
  • A peek into the VWD QA World

Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm John Dixon, one of the SDET Leads on VWD. I wanted to share some of the recent work the Venus QA team has done to make our life easier. I'll start with a little bit of history. I hope you find it interesting! Old School: In our last release (VS2005) QA would get a new build and based on build verification tests (BVTs) decide to take\reject the build and perform additional qualification (such as run nightly tests - a manual process of creating a 'run' in our lab and wait for results). Upon the results we could write new tests against the new build\features made available from the dev work performed since the last build we took. This generally worked but caused a lot of downtime as we would typically need to...
  • Cannot Create A New Website?

Over the last few months, I've seen a number of forum posts from people saying that when they choose "Create New Website", the dialog box that showed them the different types of websites they could create was completely horked. For example, instead of showing this: it would instead show this: Often when we see bugs like this, it's very frustrating for us as testers, and even as a product group. We know the bug exists. You tell us it's there, you show us screen shots and everything, but not matter what we do, we are unable to repro the bug in house. Well, I can say we have successfully tamed this bug. It appears that this dialog gets screwed up by some third party registry cleaning tools. I was able to verify this by installing a clean copy of...

  • Meet the Team - Danny Chen

Hi, I'm Danny Chen, (2nd from the right, grey shirt, next to Pete).  Like Pete, I'm also an SDET for Visual Web Developer.  I've been at Microsoft for about 1 1/2 years.  Prior to shipping Visual Studio 2005, I was on the QA team...
