Visual Studio .NET and the Sql Server December CTP bits

A question that I seem to be getting asked recently is "Where is the build of Visual Studio that works with the December CTP bits of Sql Server 2005?"  The answer is that if you have the Visual Studio 40903 bits that were included with the October CTP of Sql Server 2005, you have the build of Visual Studio that works with the December CTP bits of Sql Server 2005.  There are two things that you need to make sure you do

  • Run the batch file mentioned in the December CTP Release Notes.
  • Search existing projects for instances of old versions of assemblies.  I had SqlAccess.dll file included in the bin directory of my example CLR project and I was unable to see some items that Bobb was talking about on Monday.

Once I did these two items, all seems to be right with my installation.  As an FYI, I am running on Windows XP SP2 in a Virtual PC session configured with 512 megs of ram.
