View RSS or possibly xCalendar in Outlook 2003

Wow, ever get really passionate about something and then completely give up because you're sure you'll get around to emptying out your schedule sometime to make room? The confidence with which I can postpone the best of projects is staggering. Anyway I'm delighted to see some movement in the calendar standardization area, this pebble by way of Westin's Technical Log. Oh, wait'll I get my hands on this one.

Michael,

Everyone always points me quickly to ESF when I mention an XML spec for schedules. ESF is an extension to RSS. Why is RSS suited for calendaring information? It seems like folks are finally understanding the usefulness of web services and information as self-describing data structures (XML) but everyone things that the name for this is RSS.

Robert does the same thing in his comment "an extension to RSS that would handle events". Why RSS? Why not an optimized data structure specifically for events? The only three required elements in RSS are "Title","Link",and "Description". Why does that make RSS suited for calendar information?

I remember someone talking about an extension to RSS that would handle events... might want to jeck in with Jeff Julian and see what he's up to.

The vCalendar spec could be used for just that, but Outlook does not support most of the spec out of the box. It's quite a shame.
