Actually ASP.NET isn't suitable for AJAX development if you choose to use jQuery. All the runat=server stuffs are evil!!!

I can't stand using MS AJAX... I need more control.

You will notice the MVC tag on this post. Any JS library is suitible for ASP.NET MVC

I voted jQuery, but it really depends on what your end goal is and what you are building.
