Getting a better handle on Windows Media Player

I decided a few weeks back that I'd go through my Windows Media Player - Media Library and update the ratings and album/track info for each of the items. It's useful because then you have more options about what music you can listen to. So, now when I open the "Music Category" dropdown in the top-right hand corner of my player I can choose from some of the following options:

  • Tracks by individual Album
  • Tracks that I've rated highly
  • Tracks by genre
  • Etc...

It's pretty simple to add metadata to a track; when you right-click on a track you are given a host of options 2 of which are "Rate Selected Items" and "Advanced Tag Editor". Opening the "Advanced Tag Editor" reveals a bevvy of data that can be ascribed to a track, and you can even add the lyrics to the song in as many languages as you wish (believe it or not)!!!

My one gripe at the moment is that, it seems that some of the really useful information that you can add is never used to allow filtering of tracks. There's a mood dropdown that allows me to either select from a list of moods or, if I desire, I can add the text of a new custom mood - such as "Energetic/Enthusiastic". I think that, if I add a custom mood that it should be added to the permanent listing so that I can choose it for other tracks without the risk of incorrect spelling. You should also be able to easily select to listen to all tracks for a given mood - I haven't found out how to do that yet.
