Finally the screen saver is working under Vista !!!

Microsoft released today HID - Non-User Input Data Filter as part of the windows update service ... I've just updated my Vista machine and boom.... the Screen saver started to work !!!

Well it is about time... It took Microsoft 3 Months to fix this bug ! way way way too long !

You have no idea how joy it is to someone to finally been able to see his screen saver when his mouse stays connected to his laptop ! (Until today I had to disconnect the mouse whenever I left the comp running or start the screen saver manually)

If you own a Microsoft Mice specially the 6000 series Mice's update your Vista machine and install the 'Microsoft - Other Hardware - HID Non-User Input Data Filter'

Note this is an optional update !

  • I can't seem to find any options in windows update on Vista home premium to find any optional updates.

    help

  • have an Hp Media Center w/Vista home premium and microsoft does not show any optional hardware downloads for non user input data filter.

  • Thanks guys...I installed the optional upgrade (HID Non-User Input Data Filter) which was @ the following link.
    support.microsoft.com/kb/911895

so far, so good...i hope there are no side effects.

For anyone who can't find the actual download, you'll need to access 'other hardware' and agree to the terms microsoft requires to access their other downloads. HID Non-User Input Data Filter is an 'optional' download that is only available after you've agreed to the 'terms'.

it sure is nice to have info like this available.

  • Where the heck is the custom button in Vista Home Premium?

  • Please help! I can't find custom on windows update, nor can I find the actual download for the HID Non-Uswer Input Data Filter -- I've searched the above links -- I have Vista home premium and really need my screen saver

  • Thanks guys. I had the same problem...no screen saver kicking in. Using Vista with wireless mouse (6000) and wireless keyboard. Downloaded 'HID Non User Input Data Filter' no probs. Go to device manager/human resources. Click on first option down/search for updated driver/ hey presto...all is well again. Thanks again.

  • it works!!!!!! support.microsoft.com/kb/911895.

  • This fix also works for the 3000 series Notebook Wireless Mouse from MS.
Got to wonder why it isn't a core download considering the problem is with an MS device and a MS OS :-(.

  • I have the exact same problem. I'm running Vista Home Premium 64-bit with an Acer 20" LCD and a Logitech Cordless MX700 Desktop keyboard and mouse. I just installed the system tonight and did all the Windows Updates. The HID update did not come up and I can't find it either. I also tried going into the Device Manager and updating the HID mouse drivers there, but it keeps saying I'm using the latest drivers.

    Anyone have any answers?
