Sharepoint Document Library Change Request #2
It's deployment day. In 30 minutes we'll pass midnight, and deployment is largely withheld by minor errors in the templates. So, why could document templates make such a big difference?
Well, because Sharepoint document libraries cannot reference document templates outside the doclib Forms folder, and because we are going to dynamically generate sites, the templates pretty much have to be right on the first try. This I would like to see a change to. If you try to specify any other location than the forms directory you'll get this error from WSS:
The template must exist in the Forms directory of this document library. Create the template in the Forms directory, and then re-type the Web address. Note that you cannot move or copy a template into the Forms directory.
Bob Mixon addresses template usage in document libaries and have useful insight.
