Sharepoint Portal Server "Include in search results" disabled?
We've been working for a while resolving YASQ with a customer. While working on it we actually ran into the problem ourselves on the Objectware AS/Itera portal. I contacted my friend in need Daniel McPherson on the Elite Lookingood EXtraordinary Sharepoint Immediate Response team and he conincidentally was working on the same issue and had put togehter a repro for the issue:

REPRO

1. Start with a new Portal
2. Create a new site Group called "Test" with following permissions:
a) View Area, View Pages, Create Sites,
2. Add user to the Portal, add them to site group "Test"
3. Go to Sites area, click on "Create Site"
4. Complete information on page "New SharePoint Site"
5. Select a template on the next screen
NOTE: User not able to add entry to the Sites area
6. As administrator go to the "Sites" area and click on "Manage Security"
7. Edit the "test" site group, and change permissions to "View, Insert, Edit, Delete Listings"
8. As Test user, on the "Sites" area, click on "Create Site"
9. Complete information on page "New SharePoint Site"
10. Next you are prompted for password, enter existing credentials (at least I was, why?)
11. On the "Add link to site" page note that "Include is search results" is greyed out. This is the customer issue, this user cannot submit their site to the Search Index.
12. Complete site creation
13. As administrator, modify the permissions on the "test" site group.
14. Add the "Add Items" permission to the group
15. As Test user, on the "Sites" area, click on "Create Site"
16. Complete information on page "New SharePoint Site"
17. Now note that the "Include in search results" is now enabled, allowing the user to submit the site to the search index
18. Go to the "Home" Area, note user now has permissions to submit content to this area.
