The importance of classification in information architecture.
One of the most important and difficult parts of
information architecture is classification. It’s very
important to define very strict classification rules and
to ensure that there isn’t any overlapping between
different information entities. If overlap exists between
information it leads for redundancy of data and
functionality inside enterprise IT kingdom. I usually
insist to create flow chart of the classification rules
and not just to be satisfied with classification rules. Team members
sometimes don’t understand why I’m so obsessive about that
flow chart. But I learned that creating flow chart of
classification rules and using those charts to check the
classification against real enterprise data save
a lot of work in later stages.
