Productivity Hacks: FolderShare + Google Desktop Search = Secure Mobile 2 PC Search Tool

How many times do you need some files from your PC when you are on the road? Maybe none in your case but I badly needed this on several occasions. Well, not any more as you'll see here how to access/find anything using any device which support a decent browser.

The solution to this problem is

FolderShare is an excellent tool. I love it, I use it regularly. A while back, when setting up a new PC, I installed it after google desktop search and realized that it integrates with the desktop search engine. (I hope that it also works with other desktop search engines as well.)

Now excited with the idea of using it with my mobile phone, I decided to give it a try and found out that it just works. Although the file browsing feature of FolderShare didn't work on my phone.

Step 1: Goto www.foldershare.com from your smartphone. I tried it with SPV500 but it should work on symbian devices as well.

Step 2: Login with your email/pass to get to the search box.

Step 3: Search anything and see the results. You may require addition file viewer softwares to view pdf/doc files.

Warning: FolderShare website supports the HTTPS protocol therefore you are safe for browsing but I'm not sure whether it encrypts the data it sends over the internet. Therefore keep in mind when thinking about transferring sensitive data.
