Woz is back

Steve Wozniak is back. And this time, it's as part of The World of Always On.

Wheels of Zeus is building a platform, a reference design, and a network that aims to bring The World of Always On to consumers. (He doesn't call it that, but that's what the company is about.)

In the original Apple Computer Co., Steve Jobs was the marketer and Wozniak the gadget freak. Now Woz (a little grayer, and a good deal wiser, as we all are) wants to create stuff that "will help people take better care of what's important to them," using wireless networks and global positioning tools.

He's got barely enough venture capital to be dangerous, $6 million, and an experienced management team. Woz' role will be to provide vision and symbolism, an out-front role he was never happy with in his younger days.

It's great to see him again. I just hope Wheels of Zeus doesn't turn out to be like that old Steely Dan record. (Click the link to see what I mean.)
