Yes a damn lot of users are still working with Windows ... 98 !
Ashutosh Nilkanth mention an article about Longhorn, and yes it's going to be a long road, maybe the trip of our lives.
Indeed when you look at the graphic claiming that 74% of the worldwide are still using prior versions of Windows XP, it's really underestimated !
An example I know well is the site Scoilnet. OK it's an education site, not a developer blog.
But I can announce that roughly I have a huge 65% of users visiting the site with their PC running...Windows 98 ;-(
So I don't want to sound too grumpy o pessimistic, but Longhorn, no I don't think so until maybe 2010-2012.
Or maybe Microsoft has to do a hell of a job to explain that users has to move to a better and secure environement.
The more pragmatic reason is surely because schools in this case don't have the resources to buy expensive new PCs to accept a more modern OS.
When you see all the security holes you can possibly imagine in Windows 98, I urge Microsoft to do some more patches for these systems
Maybe I should have called this post 'Please don't kill Windows 98
