I got my Mac Mini
Cool stuff, just installed the 'beast' (well very small one) and this is my first comments.
I really like the OS preinstalled on the machine, the first setup is also so well done, everything was working fine. I have the Bluetooth and wireless model, and no problem at all to recognize my 802.11g network. The good surprise was the Bluetooth discovery integrated in the setup, and my Microsft Bluetooth keyboard was instantly accepted.
The system is fast enough for a 'media center' experience and access to my other Windows PCs caused no troubles.
OK now for the issues. First at the setup I have to use a USB mouse, because even if the keyboard was recognized, the install couldn't see the Bluetooth mouse. I had the mouse working but only after completed the setup, in the System preferences.
I have also issues with the composite connection on my TV. The fonts are quite blur, and even with the help of some google search, I am still working on this. I can increase the size of the fonts in Safari, but strangely I can't find a simple way to change the size of the Finder items, I mean everything, the menu bar, the file names, etc... something I can easily do in Windows. Maybe if you know some utilities, let me know. I am going to try a better connection tomorrow to see if the rendering is better.
I use a Mac at work for some tasks, but I reckon not enough. So it's quite challenging to understand the way files and software are installed on the machine. I can easily lost a new installed application, also because the screen readibility is poor.
I have also a lot of difficulties to find the right screen format on my JVC TV. Between Widescreen, Panoramic vew or 4/9 size, nothing really good to avoid having the dock outside the screen.
I tried also some movies through the wireless network. Technically it works, but I don't recommend it, it's really a poor experience, the framerate is too slow. Maybe something can be done regarding the cache, I don't know yet.
Last thing, a detail surely, but a good laugh too, is the size of the box compared to the huge external power supply :-)
The fun part of that is that I feel like some newbie discovering a new planet. Maybe just a question of practice. Finally I would say I like my Mac Mini, and it's already like a new member in the family, also easy to forget and lost behind the speakers!
