A maliciously-crafted GIF image may result in arbitrary code

Many people will think reading this title, yet another Microsoft security hole. Well not this time!

It’s the turn of Apple Quicktime, proof that Microsoft, Apple, or others face every day the same security issues, and one of the reasons could be also the complexity of modern OS and the difficulty to close all the security breaches.

Well the solution proposed by Apple is to upgrade to Quicktime 7.0.4. Hmm, not really a patch. Wouldn’t have been more efficent to push a fix using Software Update?

Be aware this is also affecting Quicktime for Windows XP!
