Sham'e'rock Valley

Ireland tops the list of countries which are perceived by European technology executives to have the most potential to be the Silicon Valley capital of Europe, according to a survey.
Well to achieve this believe me, we are at the start of a very long road.

Today it's the day I was waiting since ages,I will have in few hours DSL at home.
I will probably be one the 5000 users since Broadband was launch... 1 year ago !

I know it's a small country, but everything is so slow here. Don't misunderstand me, I love this country.

But Silicon Valley in Ireland is far away to be a reality.

MediaLab Europe is technically there in Dublin, but my fellow americans, you should see the infrastructure they are supposed to have !

To install the prestigious MIT institute, we are waiting since 1995 what the government call the Digital Hub, a place of high speed connections.

The Digital Hub is also an all area renovation, fancy buildings, digital companies, etc...

Instead it's a total chaos. The area, so called by Dubliners the Liberties, look more like the Bronx that you can see in old 70s movies rather than the dreamland.

Nowhere in this country, you can feel the wind of the digital revolution. Everything is so slow, compromised by a lot of regulations, and ... corruption.

I know, it's probably a dark picture of the situation, but sadly it's true.

I'm going to have finally something which look like broadband.

I say maybe because the actual ISDN connection is a real disaster.
3 boxes replaced in two months, a lot of connection errors , very slow at peak time, probably slower sometime than a ordinary modem.

Anyway, I wish my country will be soon or later this Shamrock Valley, hopefully before I die ;-)

Welcome to the new 'Paddy' Gates, 'Neill' Jobs or other 'Cormac' Ballmer ;-)
