Codemash: Follow up

Ok -- back home and back blogging on a regular keyboard again!

Codemash was awesome!  I had a great time and day two was arguably the best day (for me).  Scott Guthrie is not only a really smart guy, he's a great communicator and his presentations were awesome.  I'm definitely going to download the LINQ CTP and play around with this stuff.  Oh yeah, his second session answered a few of my questions in my last post:

  • Microsoft has been working with DBA's and on the optimized SQL they're generating from LINQ queries.  The DBA's are saying it's "pretty darn good".
  • If there's some business reason to use your own SQL or stored procs, you can plug those in and use them instead of the LINQ-generated stuff!
  • So much talk on LINQ has been on the Q - Query.  But the LINQ stuff supports insert, update and delete too.  Perhaps they should rename it to LINQUID (Langauge Integrated Query, Insert, Update and Delete).  Ok, bad idea....  ;)

Thanks to Josh Holmes for inviting me to lunch with Scott Guthrie today!  It was another opportunity to pick his brain and talk about Microsoft's direction with .NET 3.0 and beyond.  Thanks to Jim Holmes, Jason Follas and everyone else who helped organize Codemash!  I can't wait for next year's Codemash!

Now I need to find some pictures of Josh Holmes getting his head shaved.  Someone must have blogged that by now...
