A Sampling of Recent Email Exchanges

Email Exchange #1:

Vendor:  I wanted to ask you if you have any experience (or if you have tried) with our product?
Me:  I've actually never heard of Vendor -- and I thought I was at least aware of most things out there.
Vendor:  I am really surprised that you are using Competitor and have never heard of Vendor.
Me:  I'm even more surprised that you believe I am using Competitor as I never mentioned any such thing.

Email Exchange #2 (This one actually happens a lot):

Developer:  Can you tell me how to fix this problem I'm having with Competitor O/R Mapper?
Me:  I obviously don't use Competitor O/R Mapper, so I have no clue --  maybe switch to mine?

  • That is awesome. I mean, you know, in a "I-can't-believe-the-world-is-full-of-idiots" kind of way. ;)

  • While I've never written anything that competes at the level of an O/R Mapper, it seems that there is often a similar exchange if you've authored any technical content:

Developer: I recently read your article discussing on GlobalThermoNuclear War. Could you tell me how to compile an x86-64 executible in Delphi?

    Me: Huh?
