Agile PM Tools (self-Hosted)

Update: I've created a site to compare and review agile tools.

I posted a bit of research I did for some externally hosted tools previously. Here is a quick rundown of some self-hosted tools.

There are several free options here 2 commercial and 2 OSS. If I only needed 5 users I'd pick V1 otherwise I'd go with XPlanner. There seems to be a sweet spot around $2000. In this range I'd pick either Trichord or ExtremePlanner.

  • Yeah, seems pretty close to our survey.
We came to choose JIRA/GreenHopper since it answers our Issue tracking as well as our project management (Agile) needs. One thing good to know as well is that it is for unlimited users.

    Thanks Wayne!

  • Celso,
I included Mingle in my list of hosted tools. For teams greater the 5 users it is quite expensive.

  • tinyPM Community version is free for small teams (5 users) with unlimited projects. Supports iterative development based on backlog full of story cards. It has also taskboard similar to the real whiteboards used in agile projects and a wiki.

  • Target Process provides excellent functionality as well as bug tracking. The reports are simple and planning and tracking is easy- reasonable cost- $25US p/mth per user for hosted, 5 free option as well.
Like it more than V1 and Jira

  • Hello,

Agilefant is an open source tool for agile project (portfolio) management, check it out!

  • I was playing around with projectpier

it seems really good so far. Any thoughts?

  • Hey, you should check out Hansoft as well! It’s the leading agile project management tool in the game development industry used by EA, Ubisoft, THQ, BioWare, Rockstar, Harmonix etc. But now it is also rapidly gaining popularity within other software development teams, at places like the Swedish Space Corporation, Boeing, GE etc. It is particularly the more demanding teams with large backlogs that likes it, that are tired of the slow web interfaces of the first generation agile tools, preferring the fast and easy Hansoft. Hansoft is an agile tool that actually is agile to use and is designed for empowering the whole team, also in an enterprise environment. But hey, I'm totally biased being part of the Hansoft team:) Find out yourself with the free trial at www.hansoft.se or contact solutions@hansoft.se.

  • Wayne,

Thanks for the comparison chart and info.

Is the first option in the list VersionOne Community or Rally Community? I son't don't see a VersionOne produciotn option matching that.

I assume self-hosted you mean hosted by the Vendor. VersionOne Team looks like a download install product. Is there a vendor-hosted version? Maybe I'm just missing it.

    Thanks, Timmy

  • Timmy,

The first option is VersionOne. Self hosted means host on your own servers. For a list of vendor hosted tools see:

This post is getting a little dated. I probably need to update it.

  • very good work

  • Just to mention that burn down/up charts are available since the beginning on the server reports.

  • Agile pm tools non hosted.. Awesome :)
