Lenovo Website Blues

I’ve been dreaming of getting a Lenovo laptop for a few years. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Dell D630 but it may be time to upgrade soon. What frustrates me is how bad the Lenovo website experience is. Take the very appealing new T400s’ customization page:

Boy that’s one serious processor upgrade. For only $999,624.00 I can upgrade to the pathetic low-voltage 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor. This leaves me with a sales price of over a million dollars:

Now if only I was as lucky as John Robbins...

  • Maybe you can configure the price so high that it overflows and turns negative. :-D

  • Total bummer! Maybe you can keep refreshing the web site and get the better deal. Actually, Leo's got the right idea. :)

  • Lucky it's on sale, that savings of $111.00 is what makes it such a bargin!.

  • I've got a bunch of of Lenovo and Thinkpad latpops and in my opinion they're the best you can buy for reliability and function.

But Lenovo have got some terrible problems with actually getting the kit in the customers' hands. I ordered a server from them and the estimated delivery date on their web site just kept getting put back 2 or 3 weeks. This went on for about 2 months and I finally just canceled. A look at their forums will reveal a lot of people in the same boat.

  • A friend who works for a local authority and deals with a lot of Lenovo machines was telling me just this weekend how much Lenovo has deteriorated in their eyes over the last few years; their prices are unbeatable, but they reckon the results of that are showing up in build quality and service.

    YMMV.
