Why is DotNetNuke better than Kentico?

Why is DotNetNuke better than Kentico CMS? Reason #1, it's free! DNN is free and easy to configure, Kentico CMS costs $1500 for the enterprise license, and that cost is going up to $9999 on September 1st!

  • KEntico comes with much more options then DNN , like E-commerce module.

  • guiju, there are plenty of e-commerce modules for DNN, hell, I even wrote one back in the day (4-5 years ago) it's not hard to do.

  • IMHO DNN is pretty darn easy to skin

  • Like Al mentioned above, DNN is an absolute nightmare to style.. I found it incredibly frustrating where as Kentico/Umbraco were incredibly simple.

I actually find Kentico to be the best option although Umbraco is free but a little more complicated to use.

I actually use Kentico at work and I've always found their support team extremely helpful.

I'd personally go Kentico > Umbraco > Write my own CMS > DNN :-)

  • Skinning in DNN is extremely simple to do, it's just HTML and CSS, if you can't get through that I don't know what you expect.

Even if you don't know HTML or CSS there are thousands of cheap and free skins available for DNN

  • So finally waht's better currently - Kentico, Umbraco or DNN?

  • Kentico is going nowhere, they are coding themselves into a corner. The Kentico code is a big mess, someone give them a book about patterns and practices.

  • I think all they are great...
Kentico have a lot of "plugins" by default...
DNN is the most used, so it's easier to find reference.
Umbraco is the easier to create controls and personalize it.
