Work at home VS Work at office

This is one of the marketing/promotional strategy from my local MS Office, but I totally agree that working in a peaceful environment without (or little) pressure / politics would increase our productivity.

  • Several weeks ago they were doing major roadworks near our office so I picked up the laptop and the MSDN CDs and went off to the Phoenix park and sat in amongst the trees coding away happily. No phone, no annoying colleagues with trivial support issues, no printer/fax machine noises - perhaps the most productive day ever. When I mentioned this to the boss-bot he said that it would just be an excuse to skive off....unfortunately it seems that it is often more important to be seen to be doing the work than it is to get the work done.
