Exam/Cert is a MUST?

Yeah! James and Marcie passed the Web Application exam recently:

Well, I just passed exam 70-305 (ASP.NET w/VB.NET).   [Datagrid Girl]

Congrats! I recently passed the 70-315 (ASP.NET w/ C#) and I was also surprised by the amount of non-ASP.NET related questions on the exam.  [James]

I took this paper a few months ago... Yes, that's the Web Application examination exam, I took this exam because of... fun, that's my interest and favour so I'd like to see what the h*ll of this paper actually.

However, I saw a Job posting in my local User Group Forum recently, there's a University finding a team of VS.NET and ASP.NET developer to do some programming job... Yeah, that's obviously a good job (Good paid and easy job), but ... I can't apply it... as there're two requirement: Dip or above and MCAD.NET and/or MCSD.NET . I don't meet the second requirement... :( sigh...

Maybe I should follow the
blog from Peter and get the MCAD/MCSD title ASAP... BTW, Is the result of these papers really 100% reflect the personal ability and knowledge directly? They won't give me a chance for interview if I don't have these title?
(Though these papers costs lots of $$ and will be outdated soon and that's why I'm hestiate to take these exam...)

  • I mean no disrespect to those who have taken the tests and passed them (I doubt I could), but IMHO, that's a silly requirement for a job and they won't find "the best people" for doing that.

  • Colt,

Ignore the requirements, which are often as not set by an Human Resource person and not the manager or team looking for the developer. Mention that you have a better acronym, MVP, and that should at least get you past the 'must have letters after their name' requirement (in your case).

In the general case for non-MVPs, I would also encourage applying despite the listed requirement and focus on those skills or experience you have that you feel makes you stand out from all the zero-experience MCSDs and MCADs out there.
